1968 C600 decode

Can anybody help me decipher these codes. I decoded the VIN and I understand the Wheel Base, Gross Weight, HP and RPM. Just don't know the rest.

Any chance someone can help me DECODE this beast. I've been given the opportunity to pick this thing up for next to nothing. Just wanting to know as much about the rig as I can before making the purchase.

Welcome to FTE!

Giving you your own thread to avoid confusion with other trucks.

Check your wheels--widowmakers were around for this model year.

C61 = C600 gas

B = 300 1V six cylinder gas engine

U = Louisville Assembly Plant

D29132 = 1968 numerical series, May 1968 production

175 = 175 inch wheelbase

No color code. This is a special order truck and color could be part of that.

C612 = C600 gas, 23,000 lbs GVWR

1 91
1 = Gray Block Weave & Crush Vinyl
91 = Probably Tilt cab without sleeper, standard cab. Cab and chassis vehicle. I do not have the full decoder ring for that info.

M = Clark model 285V five speed direct transmission

55 = Rockwell model H170 single speed rear axle, 17,500 lbs capacity, 7.17 ratio

No front axle code, which for MY '64-'69 means standard axle, which would be a Ford front axle with at least 5,500 lbs capacity and no power steering. Unless the front axle was part of the special order. There will be numbers/labels on the front axle, probably passenger side, back side, by which you can further ID it.

23000 = 23,000 lbs GVWR

139 3600 = 139 Certified Net HP @ 3600 RPM

610380
61 = Dallas District Sales Office
0380 = Special Order Number

With 40" tires (8.25 x 20s) you will be doing 60 MPH at 3600 RPM. IF the 300 will push it through the air.

I appreciate the information. This helps out quite a bit. Now do you happen to have access to part numbers or know anything about the drive lines? I am missing the back drive line and haven't a clue where to start looking. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Limited access and no knowledge of how to look things up, other than standard search methods.

I think you'll be better off having a drive line shop make you a new shaft.
