I have a 1997 F250LD 5.4L 4x4 and everywhere I look everyone says I have a 4R100. But when I look up my door code and my owners manual it says I have an E4OD. I need a new transmission and I want to get one from either monster transmission or Precision transmission. But I need to know. If I Indeed have an E4OD, would it be better to buy another one or swap to a 4R100? And if so what would I need to complete the swap to 4R100?
Although the 4R100 look similar to an E4OD, they are not.
The converter operation is different and therefore at a minimum, an ECU would be needed.
I would believe the door jamb vs some clown on the internet. There are plenty of sites that show the differences of the transmission. I believe the 4R100 has a speed sensor at the back tail housing. Google it.
Quick way to tell is the 4R100 will have speed sensors, one on the extension housing, one on the top of the trans just behind the bellhousing. Do yourself a favor and stay away from Monster.
Then yes I have an E4OD. I always wanted a John Wood E4OD but I heard he went out of business. I have been seeing more people recommend Precision Transmission from here in TX. I need to find somewhere that can ship me a complete Transmission and I ship them back my core.
