I have put a different carburetor on my truck because of issues with the old one. The old one had stripped screws, bad float, other issues.
i got an autoline car as a replacement (not sure if that was a good thing or a bad thing yet).
the problem I am having is, when I let off the gas, it sometimes stalls. I noticed I went through gas faster than expected, so…..
I when I cut off the truck, I notice gas going in the carb and flooding it. The strange part about it to me (keep in mind I know nothing and am not a mechanic), when I move the throttle, like I’m giving it a little bit of gas, it stops flooding.
has anyone run into this? Does the dash pot have any impact on this?what should I check?
when adjusting the idle and air, I noticed the 2 adjustments were a full 5 turns out. I started at 1 1/2 turns on both, and now am out about 2 turns
to sum it up, in resting idle (no throttling) after warming up, I cut the truck off and I peak in the jets and it is squirting gas until I hold the throttle slightly. After holding it for about a minute, I can let go and it won’t squirt gas. It’s almost like the resting position lets fuel pour out more then holding the throttle slightly.
Sounds like you need to reset the float level. If you aren't familiar with how to do that your shop manual will show you how.
Ok,
I will check that. I didn’t check because they had claimed it was all set up/calibrated for the truck. I should have known better. I was hesitant to open because the manual they sent with the carb says it voids the warranty if I open it up
Well, if it voids the warranty call them and tell them to send you a replacement. Any carburetor that is shipped by any method has most likely been dropped multiple times on its way to you. No matter how well its packed it doesn't take much to bend a float tab.
Is replacement an Autolite carb, is it used...............
Your needle could b stuck or the tip worn/damaged..........
it is actually an autoline, a knock off brand. Come to find out, it seems to be manufactured in Canada.
The more I think of it, what someone previously replied does make sense. I think the float is out of adjustment. It is flowing fuel after cutting off until I move the throttle, which quickly fills the bulb and closes the needle. I will get to adjust next weekend and will try updating.
Hey,
I had to replace the original because of a pinhole leak, but stayed with mechanical
Check the outlet PSSI as of late some pumps are putting out way to much psi and over power the float needle.
I had a non-Ford pump leaking out the vent hole so replaced it.
As it was running my son yelled to shut it down just as I was getting wet.
Gas was spraying out the bowl vent, Holley carb.
When I checked the psi it was up at 18 psi before I shut the motor off because it was flooding.
There have been other posts of motor driven pumps doing the same, do a search.
