I have an 86 f150 with a motorcraft 2150 carb. i start it up and it idles fine but one i hit the gas and let off just basicaaly open and close the butterfilies quickly. i have been messing with the timing and the mixture for a few days now and it still does it. It does it worse under a load. Now when i look down the throats of a the carb i have gas coming out of one booster not both. but one i hit the gas gas shoots out both squiters and boosters. any ideas? could it still be too lean?

When the truck is idling and you are not moving the throttle, you should not see visible gas going down in the engine or dripping into the engine. If you do, you float level is too high in the carb. This is usually caused by the classic dirt in the fuel problem, usually caused by a rusty gas tank.
what im seein is like a dribble coming off the booster would that still cause it to pop?
Yes. As Dave said, you should not see the gas coming out of the boosters when the engine is running. Out of the accelerator pump nozzles when you hit the throttle, yes. But out of the booster, no.
As Kev said, you need to rebuild it. And, if Dave is right on the cause, rust in the tank, you will need to replace the fuel filter. In fact, in those situations I run a filter ahead of the pump and one behind the pump and ahead of the carb. And I have had to replace the first filter several times until things settled down.
alright. it was supposedly a fresh rubuild and it looks the part too but i dont know for sure. theres a brand new filter on the carb but thats the only one i got

It may be that the gas is bad - either old or really dirty. I would pull the top off the carb and see what the inside looks like. Clean the needle and seat, swab out the bowl with a Q-tip, and generally make it spotless. If the inside of the carb was clean then it may not be a carb problem, but I'm guessing that it won't be, so put a new fuel filter on - one of the see-thru plastic ones. Do not, ever, rely on the screw-in ones that hook to the inlet of the carb. All the ones I've ever seen are nothing but screen and might keep out flies.
BUMP I GOT IT FIXED! after a year and a half, a new motor, swapped from efi to carbd shes finally running how i want her to. my points were destroyed after a piece of the plastic arm broke it trashed my points. i put a new set of points in and boom shes runnin like a champ. i also put a clear fuel filter on and after i put it on and ran the pump the fuel was orange. after a few minutes it turned clear with a hint of yellow so everything is all good thanks for all your guys help i really appreciate it

Glad you got it fixed. But, I would suggest getting a DSII distributor and ignition module to replace the points system. The engine will run better and for longer.
Yeah...that's gotta be a first!!! 1986 with points
So, not to make you feel silly, but going forward it is very important to tell us all the stuff on there that is not stock. Give us a good picture of what you have, what it's doing and when!
as it is right now the motor is stock except for being bored .30 over. its got a 73 302 distributor off an f100 and a motorcraft 2150 2bbl carb and a 2.5" straight pipe exhaust with a cherrybomb glasspack. im going to some swap meets soon for a set oif headers to run true duals. as far as the pictures go she aint pretty but its a work in progress. my dad had an 86 f150 xl 2wd from when i was born till bout 5 years ago. it was grey and had a l6 with a 2bbl so my goal is to get my truck looking like his did when he bought it off the show room floor.

I fully support that plan. See my Avatar - I'm restifying my father's '81 F150 4x4.
