Carburetor Problems

I have bought a 1978 Ford F150 4x4 with a 300ci straight six. The carburetor leaked before and after eventually the car would not stay running but would turn over. We then rebuilt the carburetor and it took a while but we finally got it to start. The truck still wont continue to run unless we stay on the gas pedal. It also leaks like a siv and leaks everywhere. Gas is coming out of everywhere possible which makes no sense. Gas pours out of this metal rod on top of the carb which lets gas fall into the carb through the air throttle on top. What do i need to do cause nothing seems to work.

Get a different carb or try to rebuild it again the throttle shaft probably bore is probably wore oversize and sucking air this is why it wouldnt stay running if gas is pouring out everywhere did you use any gaskets ? and as for gas pouring out the metal tube that lets gas fall into the carb you probably set the float level to high and thats why its doing this

It won't keep running because of all that fuel pouring in the motor. Assuming you did set the float level correctly, I would
say you are getting dirt from the fuel system which is making
the float needle stick open and flood the engine. Do you have
a good filter in the fuel line somewhere?
