[QUOTE=ck1984;21372720]Ive heard stories of this b4. they say Sometimes a dual-battery system is THE DRAIN ITSELF. meaNING a 12.7 v new battery will try to equalize with a 11.9 v battery and drain itself doin so.
SO the system should have a diode in there somewhere to block this effect.
-regardless of why, do like suggested and get a $5 neg terminal twist off disconnect to save you ruining a new battery unless/until you find the real problem[/QUOTE
i did get a battery disconnect for it and it is still draining it. This is why I posted on the forum because I thought that would take care of it
Hey Lucas,
I have always thought the radio or electronic memories is all this new stuff only supposed to draw like 17ma. of power with key off.
That would take a while to drain a battery,
Try taking the lead off and connect your meter from pos post and other lead to the radio wire snd see what it reads.
Maybe I'm all wet but just what I have always been told when speaking about auto memories and battery draw....
Check it out first on line to see what your radio should read...
My current battery in my '77 is dated 2015, it is a group 65. I have older group 65s in some vehicles, all have a 1.5 amp battery maintainer on them, always unless I'm driving it. Our 2019 Subaru and 2008 Mustang are both smaller batteries ... they have in the past pulled a battery down in a number of days before I got them on maintainers. A battery will suffer in life from heavy discharges and recharges.
I started using maintainers with MCs, "Maintainers", not trickle chargers. Maintainers only charge as needed to keep the battery full of charge so it doesn't get discharged.
I just took the battery to autozone where I bought it and they tested it and it was completely dead. They exchanged it so I’ll see what happens over the next few days as this new one gets used if it still gets drained. Thanks for everyone’s help.
