Does anybody have a source for the gauge cluster wiring diagram for an 05 excursion? I have a trans temp gauge that is pegged all the way down and does not cycle when I use test mode, but it used to work a couple weeks ago. I want to find out which wire or wires in the harness are for the trans temp gauge, and which wires are for the coolant temp gauge
Thanks, they have a pay for subscription to have access to wiring diagrams for the whole truck. But I'm just looking for a free version of the wiring diagram for the gauge cluster temperature gauges if possible
Allright, a bit more research. It appears from the diagram in my prior post that the transmission temp gauge in the instrument cluster ("98") is controlled by the PCM. So following on that assertion look at the diagram on page 29-2 inserted below showing the Transmission Fluid Temperature (TFT) sensor. It feeds information to the PCM regarding the transmission temperature. Now one more step on the TFT sensor. Note the reference to page 151-12. That is the page with the graphical location of the TFT sensor on the transmission. I have also inserted that page below.
So, given all of the above, either 1) the instrument cluster indicator (98) is bad, or 2) the TFT sensor on the transmission is bad, or 3) the connector C1385 on the transmission (or its harness) has come loose or is bad. I would first start by eliminating #3 as a cause, and then #2 before assuming the instrument cluster is bad (gauge 98).
the coolant Temp gauge is controlled by the PCM, barring extreme ranges, it always stays in the Middle of the scale, it is useless ...
it is more like a Light Bulb that turns on to let you know the radiator just lost all of its' coolant.
different truck, but I have my CTS-3 reading TFT, which is a sensor in the valve body of the transmission. the PCM also controls that guage, again, it stays in the middle, and never moves, until it is too late....
I can verify that, by watching TFT on the CTS-3 and the gauge...
the gauge never moves, but TFT does.
Thanks for the updated info and diagrams. That should help me narrow down which wires it is. This truck was swapped to a Cummins with a a518 transmission and there's a lot of funky wiring that I'm having to sort through. The fact that it was working before and now it's not moving at all and is fully pegged down leads me to believe whatever wire they were using is shorting somewhere. I just don't know if in test mode if a wire is shorted if the gauge would still sweep or not, as mine doesn't move even in test mode now
