Oil Leak

Okay, I did it, my fault. I overfilled the oil on my 2015 6.7l diesel and now I have a leak. I can't pinpoint where the leak is but I feel it is on the left side, maybe half way up. Can anyone help me locate this leak? I am sure it is pricey to repair so I may have to just carry a drip pan with me. Any help appreciated.

Check your CCV box, they are notorious for leaking and mimic an oil pan leak. If you over filled, more than likely that is where it will come out.

Exactly what acdii said and while your at it, start the engine and while its idling remove the oil fill cap...if it pops off under pressure then your crank case vent (ccv) is clogged and the pressure build up is causing the leak.

How much was too much? 13 Qts is correct for that year. 14 Qts likely wouldnt cause a problem. 15+ might. Do as others have suggested. Drain down to correct level, degrease the engine and watch for leaks. Could be the CCV too.

The real question is, what color is the oil? Is it clean and looks like it just came out of the bottle, or is it black?

If the former then it's spillage, just clean it up and move on to making sure that your oil level is correct. If the latter, then you've sprung a leak somewhere...

I found the video for the 2015 Powerstroke, quite a bit different. The filter and housing are a one piece unit. It looks tough to do - at least for me. It took the guy in this video about 2 hours to complete the job. I might have to hire it out but definitely not the dealer.

Great starting place for me, Thanks

It looks harder than it is. It's just a tight spot and the back bolt is just a little tighit. 1/4" drive sockets is all I used. It took maybe an hour or so and I'm no mechanic, just play one when needed.

There are serviceable and non serviceable ones. The serviceable ones have a filter that can be changed out. Might want to get the cheese grater catch can while you are at it. Also I would purchase it through the dealer with the vin. There might be an upgrade and get the non servicable one.

Ford has come out as stated with ones that no longer have a filter and then you dont have to worry about it.

That was the problem!! I'm glad I didn't attempt the installation of the new part - I bought after market and it didn't quite fit like OEM. The holes were off, it was warped. Great shop in central PA - gave me a break on shop time.

Thanks to all that replied!
