Was headed to vegas and had a guy that insisted on driving in my blind spot (definitely not a cop). I was already doing 80 and I figured I had two options: slow down to put some distance, or speed up to put some distance. I opted for speeding up as I had been watching this guy in my mirrors for a while doing the same thing to other drivers (would be hauling *** then would slow down and pace people in their blind spots [like a cop but definitely not a cop] ). So I didn't want this guy in front of me creating a hazard for me.
So I start accelerating enough to get some good distance from that guy and notice I top out at 88mph. What the ****?
I've read other posts about the limiters and have seen the standard replies:
The tire rating isn't meant for higher speeds. That's fine I'll only maintain higher speeds for short periods until I get better tires.
Due to the gearing it would require higher rpm. Eh so what.
Why do you want to drive an f450 over 88 mph? Because it's mine and i want to, or, for those of you that like punk rock the band **** peddlers puts it a good way (this is a joke don't get your panties in a wad) "because f u c k you that's why!"
so yeah any way to remove the speed limiter without voiding the warranty?
You might want to find out the critical speed for your driveshaft before exceeding 88 MPH. If you exceed the critical speed the driveshaft fails, and that can get quite exciting at speed. The speed limiter may be set for driveshaft speed, not tire limits.

I don't believe there's tires in the 19.5 size that are rated for much more than that, as they're a commercial tire. You would need to look at getting new rims as well.
Too much RPM for the engine will accelerate the wear and lead to premature failures.
You bought a truck that was purpose-built to pull large loads and maneuver those loads in tight areas. It's not built for speed. If you wanted something to drive fast you should have bought a Mustang. I get it, all you guys from the Southwest drive fast, don't care about other people on the road, etc. But that truck isn't built to be driven that fast for any length of time.
Use your right foot and just slow down and let the ****** move along.
That individual situation is beside the point. I just brought it up as it is when i found out i was limited. Regardless of that i want to be able to go faster if i feel like going faster. More often than not that is not the case but dang it i don't like being limited.

Well that sucks that it'll void the warrant. Guess I'll just wait till the warranty is done then. I'm guessing i would be a tuner.
For the tires that sucks as well but ok. And for rpms being higher and causing premature damage, that should be my choice. I mean hell is my truck and my money right?
I totally get that it's not built for speed but come on.. average speed on the freeway that most people drive is 80 to 85. Passing is 90 plus. And yeah if I want to go fast often I'd get a motorcycle. Who said I don't care about others on the road? That's just a dumb comment... if I wasn't to go fast I do it when no one is around me. Don't make assumptions about people my guy.
I find it hard to believe that there is any mechanical reason to limit a modern Super Duty to 88mph....the driveshaft can't take it? ....nah, not buying that; my 1967 Impala got to 115 mph with drum brakes and bias ply tires. .....my Jaguar F type apparently tops out at 188mph....but I haven't tested that! LOL

Let's compare your guess to my knowledge from having worked on these when I was the one programming the speed limiter on the 6.0L F-Series when I worked at Ford. The limit on speed for the driveshaft is real whether or not you believe it.
I'm sure there is an aftermarket company that could build a driveshaft that can spin faster. Most problems can be solved with enough money.
Speed limiter???? A couple of weeks ago while traveling in eastern Colorado, rural state highway, I had occasion to pass an eighteen wheeler and two passenger cars following...they were all traveling at about 55mph on a 60 mph highway. As I passed the truck and merged back into the right lane my Super Duty was doing 96 mph - plenty fast enough, no warning bells, whistles or flashing lights...... FWIW

Have you compared the two? I imagine a modern F450 drive shaft has quite a bit of length and mass compared to that Impala so that's not really a great comparison.
Removed my limiter using laptop & HP tuner, cost $200 to unlock the vin (I have my own tuner). Limiter is set due to Tire speed rating of 82MPH, not the driveshaft. (FYI @ 100mph w/ 4.88 gears, shaft speed is 4500 rpm)
For short bursts of speed I see no danger from either component.
I removed the limiter on mine, due to crazy people on the road and needing a safe way to exit the situation, NOT so I can drive fast all the time. 10,000 # going 80mph is normal fast enough for me
At 100mph, warnings came on on my speedo in my '24 Limited. I believe it limited, but didnt try to go faster.
Surprised you were able to hit 100 mph. Most SRW SD, including my own, are limited to 96 MPH. I've hit it several times, gets there pretty quick. I wonder if they upped the limit on the newest gen.
