I will agree with, for the most part, these big trucks aren't meant for high speed runs, and I don't drive it like that, the large annoyance comes in when, living in the mtns, and heading up the hill home, or down the hill to Fresburg, there are ********s that do not understand the concept of constant speed... they will do 35-45 through the corners, maybe 50 on the straights, and then they are Mario effing Andretti in the passing lanes to make sure no one gets in front of them so yes, sometimes a burst of speed over 80 is required for sanity. And yes, I have literally had to go over 90 in my personal truck to get past some of these morons, and then look in the rear view and see all the cars stuck behind one dumba** who slows back down to 40 for the corner... I drive all over CenCal and NorCal for work, the large majority of the time, I just set the cruise a few mph under what everyone else is running and stay in the rear with the gear, happy at 63mph.

Yea, that seems to happen to me all the time... Some people just seem to drive weird... and speed up, when the opportunity comes up for me to pass, in a double lane up a hill , & I can actually pass at a legal speed, now, up a hill with a passing lane, but wait a minute now they speed up...

Some people just seem to drive weird!! You are so way more polite than me!! That had me LMAO! I'll have to try and put that in my vocabulary when I'm driving from now on!! Thanks!
Living in Arizona since 1993, I've encountered many transplants from California and Texas. Now Californians don't believe in using turn signal it seems and or follow traffic signage? And Texans....well, they seem to have the "drive it like they stole it" approach, which in my 20's-30's-lol wasn't a problem. Coming from my 2014 F150 Ecoboost which was an absolute Beast with ALL THE MODS & TUNES. My wife is the one who said , "hey let's go look at that F250 diesel that's for sale" fully knowing that I wanted to pull a large 5th wheel and basically to keep me from adding bigger turbos to the F150?! My 2021 F250 6.7L is no slouch and has seen bursts of 100mph a couple times, that was before the dealership trip.
I will tell you that with Forscan before the Ford Powertrain Update I could turn off the speedlimiter and did, but once it went in for that service I could no longer do that and in fact to select the option was gone. For me because of the F250's size and comfort I don't speed much-really.....it's just such a great cruiser especially with the Kicker Soundgate installed from the F150! But I still like to "flowing with traffic" as I tell the wife-lol I tow a 38' Keystone Outback and it never seems to amaze me at the morons that pull out in front; slow down, erratic lane changes, follow to close behind etc... Seen it all and yes I get super pissed off , but one thing is most OP's will get out of the way.
When I'm not towing I leave the trailer hitch attached for those idiots that can't seem to keep a safe distance and or do not pay attention when stopping.
IMO believe that you should be able to accelerate up to a decent speed at least more that 88mph. Now I also would never do that with a truck that wasn't safe and I get the drive shaft concern yet thankfully never ever experienced that even with the F150, nor came across anyone on the freeway that had that happen. Yes it could and if that did you would certainly have to own up to the consequences of those actions. You want to have fun with your 6.7L, but also try and be safe at the same time.
I just put on a blinker, then act as if I'm changing lanes, then cut my wheel like I didn't see them. When they pass me I look at them and say I'm sorry. Dumb~~~~s If it's at night I will turn my mirror on them. They pass pretty quick. Dumb~~~~s
The thing is, you’re basing your decisions on what you “think” might happen or not. As an engineer I learned early in my career that if you don’t “know” it’s right you have to consider it’s wrong. That’s why you have to calculate things like critical driveshaft speeds. The engineers at Ford set the limiter as they did for a reason. Unless you know the reason or the safety factors used in calculating the limit you’re just guessing. Again, I don’t care what you do to your truck. The odds of it having any affect on me or mine is infinitesimally small.
I can say though that critical speeds of rotating machinery are called that for a reason. You have to push through or back out of critical speeds very quickly. Seconds at these speeds can be disastrous.
Pulling the engineer card so you must be right.
Engineers don't put limiters on because the drive shaft will grenade 5 MPH faster. The limiters are based on safety, regulations (including insurability), and to minimize wear on the drivetrain. Transient 10MPH over the limiter won't impact long term wear; The risk and severity of an accident does go up.
