I just got my full harness kit from Bauer electronics. Looks very good and complete with great diagrams etc.
The only thing I am disappointed about is it is simply wrapped in electrical tape. I thought it would be cloth covered wire with proper wire loom already. Over time that is going to degrade and get messy under the hood and under the body.
I am bit bummed I am going to have to spend more money on wire loom after spending $1k on the harness but such is life. I am happy overall.
What are you using for nice quality wire loom that will fit neatly over the harness wires?
I think under the dash I just have to live with the electrical tape. It wont be seen but I will know it's there....
I don't recall Bauer being recommended as having the original style material covered harnesses you were seeking. I would try to return the product you are unhappy with and get the right one from the get-go: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...ng-or-kit.html
Now, as for trying to "save" what you have, Napa offers the asphalt loom, but to use it, you will probably need to remove many of the terminals and rebuild the harness. https://www.google.com/search?q=napa+asphault+loom
Lastly, you could get get a bunch of Tesa tape and wrap it over the electrical tape:
Bauer specialize in OEM wire harnesses he has original examples that they’re patterned off of. He does make the correct wire looms as The original engine harness were just wrapped in electrical tape. I’ve had mine in there a few years now and it’s holding up quite well! As far as I know his wires although correctly cloth covered are also covered initially in vinyl. So you have the best of both.
PS if you wanted to use a period correct wire loom although not factory correct, then the asphalt would be recommended. I’ve used some of that narrower asphalt loom when the fog light or tail lights exit the chassis it provides protection and looks super neat. But again I’ve seen original engine wire harnesses and they were wrapped in electrical tape.
Bauer is my go to guy for wiring. He is expensive, but you get quality wiring. He is also the only one that puts a wiring diagram in with the harnesses. You can call him for information, He is very friendly and helpful.
