Exactly. if the 10R100 is so sufficient, put it on all the gas engine SDs to show their confidence in the gearbox.

The fact you mentioned that the 10L1000 is used in all GM HDs makes the Ford's move to use a smaller unit for "unworthy" SD configurations an extra slap in the face for F250 buyers, considered how much trouble Ford's version has had compared to the GM cousin.

Yep; no 10R100's for me......doesn't matter in my case as I'd always buy an F350 over a 250 anyhow but you won't convince me that the new 10R100 (beefed up 10R80?) is better to have over the 10R140.

The real issue was the unreliability of the previous 6-speed transmission used in the gasser HD, it was easier to just put the L1000 behind everything, and be done with it.

The jury is out, still, for me. I have a 445 with the R140, and I have a 415 with the R100. The R100 makes more whiny noise, the R140 does some dumb things. Noise aside, so far, the R100 is a better driving transmission... but I've not pulled with it just yet. Is the R100 more behaved because of the smaller engine, or is it just a better transmission? Dunno.

Well, clearly "one and be done with it" would be too simple for Ford buyers. Wonderful.

Actually... I'm glad Ford has two transmissions... I just wish one of them was a MANUAL.

You like the increased cost of maintaining the offering of two concurrent gas motor transmissions when the expense could have been used to make the primary one more reliable, or do you support the cost cutting achieved through using the weaker transmission on non Tremor F250s when the F350s (which are otherwise mostly identical) get the standard transmission?

No, I think the R140 should be standard across the board, with the exception of a 6-speed manual.

You can't hold your phone for selfies, cruising the mall parking lot, if you are also trying to shift your gears...

We don’t have any malls. I don’t like manual transmissions in pickups or jeeps because it’s too hard to shift gears, shoot out the window and drink beer at the same time.

One of my saddest days as a Ford Super Duty owner was having to give up my stick shift and manual 4X4 stick.

I blame it on all those owners that insist on having a center console.

Gotta have the room to put the big gulp, ipad sized phones, and whatever else the Modern Man carries around these days.

It was a shame to lose manuals in SD/HD trucks, diesels are by far the easiest trucks to learn manuals on, any caveman can learn in a few minutes.

I have taught people how to drive a manual and get the hang of it in 30 min., one person even right off the dealer lot. My last manual was my 2011 Mustang GT which, sad to say, i no longer have. People are too lazy these days and automatics in many cases out perform a manual now. But my first truck was a Chevy C10, 3 speed on the column. Miss those days.

I too miss the 6spds; still have three in my fleet. Oh well, I have my '78 FJ40 with the factory 4spd to drive when I get all nostalgic for a clutch (and an engine compartment where I know what everything does! LOL)

Too many years of heavy duty clutching has worn out my left knee, so I appreciate not having the manually shift. For a while i was floating, never touching the clutch at all except to stop and start. having a bad knee takes all the joy out of clutch dropping and such. OTOH a manual with todays engines will break schiznit. I broke schiznit with a 99 7.3 and 4 speed auto, so I know I can break schiznit with the 6.7 and a manual.
