Nothing scientific here but we've had three 6.7L company trucks, two F250 and one F750. Both F250s were my two brother's main truck and treated with additives as well as babied. Both F250s lost an engine around the 100k mark and both lost a CP4 within 15k-20k miles after the second engine went in. Meanwhile my F750 has never had any fuel additive and I mix gasoline with 2 cycle oil for an antigel in the month of February when that truck plows snow. F750 has original fuel system and is approaching 200k miles within a month or two.
Do additives work? I'm sure there's a benefit from them at some very very minor degree but you wont catch me spending my money on them.
One of my bottles leaked, but have not determined which one. It made a tacky mess in the tray and stunk terribly. I since put the bottle in a glad bag and sealed it up, wiped it all down inside and a new air freshener. No more smell. I think it what Overkill mentioned, got hot and expanded through the cap.
Good post, anything with Alcohol should be avoided!! you dont water mixing with fuel, you want it seperating.
K100D+ has alcohol in it and I've been running it for 128k miles... with original CP4. So I'd have to say the "additives with alcohol will blow up the CP4" internet rumors are false... but as always, YMMV.
IMHO, the diesel manuals going back to the 7.3 have stated to avoid alcohol for the fuel system but I believe that's talking about the old school dry gas additives that offer zero lubrication value to a diesel fuel system. K100D adds lubricity to the fuel at the same time amongst other functions.

I personally like the bottle here of squeeze the desired dose and pour, cap it and back in the toolbox. Many, many years ago with the first work/ personal truck I had learned to never put fluids, sprays and nasty work gloves in the inside of truck. Greasy, dirty stinky crap inside is a messy accident just begging to happen. When on the job site all the guys know take off hard hats and work gloves before getting in. It's a truck but why make more work to keep it clean.
Time to get another bottle this one is almost empty now.
Yeah I would too but I don't have a cover on my bed... I have my eye on one, forget the brand name, diamond plate that you can get in black, but expensive... i also keep my tools on the back floor as well... I'd also would like to keep them in the bed as well.. one day...
BuiltRite Industries, IIRC, makes bolt on plates, like Molle gear, to mount containers and tools to... I'd love to do that as well. But it all starts with a lockable hard top.

I have the the BackFlip cover. I also have the BuiltRite Molle panels in the bed, they are amazing!!!

Who makes that Back Flip cover... curious...
I like these, especially the HD one but I have a few ideas yet on what I'll go with when I do a bed cover. Would definitely get it in black diamond plate though..

Did you buy any of their weather proof bags they sell?
I wanted one that I could remove for when I just take the dirt bikes out or a ton of firewood for camping Honestly my cover is on most of the time but the flexibility is nice and all the individual parts are replaceable if anything breaks on the BackFlip.
Yes, I bought 1 large and 2 small BuiltRite bags plus a couple of cheapos from Amazon. I keep bungee cords, couple of carabiners and a small hand broom in the waterproof bags and am looking to find things for the other bags. I also bought the rotopax mount to carry emergency water, you never know.... My truck in a play truck, but it works hard when I'm playing.... I feel like a fake overlander but I typically have what is needed to deal with most situations.

that’s the good thing about the XL I used to have - if you forget your leaking chainsaw in there for a few days it’s easy to wipe off with brake cleaner, not so easy if you have carpets…

Here are a couple pictures of my racks, bags and RotoPax mount. The red Husky bag is how I transport my additives. I cut foam to hold the Opti-Lube bottles upright (6 total) and placed it in the bottom.

Yeah sweet set up... yours plays way more than My daily driver. But i would like to get my tools out of my cab as well as i have essential basic tools in an open top nylon tool bag plus a half inch rachet/socket set in a hard plastic case.
I filled up the 16 oz dosing bottle I carry K100D+ in. I took some pics as well...
I bought two 16 oz bottles of E-ZOil Diesel Aid and Cetane at a local truck parts store... when I used the first bottle, IIRC, I believe I still was using K100 with it as well... I like the bottles because they came with plastic caps that go into the mouth of the bottle under the screw on caps.
The second bottle I never used and you can see the difference between the colors of the two additives... the EZ Oil smells different than K100 but i believe chemistry is similar but I'd have to check the printed out SDS on it...
I bought a bottle of XPD Diesel Power Plus additive but have not found an SDS on it. It smells different than both the K100 and E-ZOIL. It has a more petroleum smell to it if that's the correct term for it.
Pics of my additive storage ammo can.
I keep a spare 8 oz bottle of K100D and small funnel in the can, the dosing syringe for the Max Mileage and both 16 oz bottles of K100 and Max Mileage. The can is lined with plastic and there's old newspaper on the bottom in case.
The nozzle wipe rag...
The rubber seal that keeps the stink inside the can.

Yeah my daily is my Mustang, but I keep a fair amount of things for the "what if's" when camping/adventuring. I'm trying to move more of those things to bags in the bad vs under the back seat. And here is a pic of my husky bag with the foam cutouts. I switch between the XL and XDP. I live in SoCal but often camp where it is at or near freezing over night so I just run the XDP Dec-Feb. And then I'm ready for any true cold weather adventures to Utah, Colorado or wherever.
