I previously had a close call with precious cargo in the cab being affected by this - I blamed myself for being careless and/or forgetting to go into the vehicle settings page and disabling the auto engine shutdown.
I adopted the "pointing and calling" method to reduce the chances that I missed disabling the shutdown before leaving the cab.
This Saturday, I pointed and called that auto engine shutdown was DISABLED. Precious Cargo (PC) and I went inside, leaving the engine idling, touchscreen still set on the screen showing auto engine shutdown DISABLED.
We came back roughly 40 min later, used the bed 120v outlet, and loaded the cab.
Upon cab re-entry, I pointed and called the auto engine shutdown was ENABLED. No one else had access to the vehicle and I was not under the influence of anything.
I haven't had time to try to isolate/reproduce the problem (feels like a bug now) but I suspect it may be related to using the bed's 120v outlet.
So the bottom line and subject of this Public Service Announcement (PSA):
- Do NOT rely on the auto engine shutdown setting in the touchscreen if you need the truck to idle more than 30 min
I'll get a chance to do more testing in mid-October when I'm back stateside but I'd this helps save just one other person's precious cargo, it was worth the time to post.
Would sure like to know how to permanently disable auto-30m-shutdown on my 23 F250 (CC Lariat + Lariat Ultimate Pkg).
I used to think it might be use of the remote start that turns it back on but really have no idea. Can't seem to keep it disabled for more than one on-off cycle. Very annoying 'feature'.
Unfortunately Ford has “disabled” auto engine idle shutdown disable by software (ForScan/FDRS) for now.
Only two ways of bypassing
High idle (if use. Potentiometer I recall 800 is minimum to override)
Hardware (wiring with switch) that ties into the PTO circuit.
There are a couple options.
i have spoken with Rich with Limitless, he is going to take a look
@Zork
Nothing to do with remote start or FordPass.
When you leave a PSD parked idle an auto shutdown timer starts. In previous MY you could extend or disable it in ForScan (EMS vehicles). 23+ the coding is there but does not work.

I asked at my dealer yesterday because I had the same thing as the OP happen while my GSD was in the back seat. Thankfully it wasn't really warm out(68) and it was only a 45 minute visit to the Dentist. I know there has to be a way for it to be done as EMS vehicles do not shut down but I believe at idle they may actually idle up which would override it. So if I cannot override it with Forscan what are the better options in the high idle(adjustable) market? TIA
