that is the easiest way (I've done it a dozen times) but in this hobby we don't like easy... we want to do it the hard way with pain and strain and blood letting.. Hammer flailing and tool bending...
Be a man and set the engine on the ground and install the truck OVER it. Then you'll have something to be proud of !!
But seriously... nothing will interfere later... do it now and save your back.
Any negatives to putting engine and transmission back in my truck while cab is off?
The operative word here is "back"...this assumes that the engine was in fact installed previously. If so, then yes put the driveline in first and then the sheetmetal. The only good reason not to do it this way is if the engine was never in the truck before and there may be issues with firewall clearance, ect.
I recently learned from a Ford truck mechanic that the dealership will pull the cab off a new truck to service the engine for all but the most simple maintenance. They even have a specialized lift and shelving to accommodate the removal/storage/install of the cabs.
Thanks, as always, guys.
John, you are so right about doing things the hard way. This is my first "remodel" of a vehicle and I have done so many things the hard way it is a wonder I have made it this far.
