How do these hub caps come off? I’ve tried every tool in my extensive shop to get them off and have not damaged them yet but at this point I don’t see how they come off. There is not groove to get a tool in and everything you attempt that with looks like it’s going to bend them badly. The wheels themselves are scratched to **** trying to get them off but I can paint those. The tire guys suggested a 5lb sledge so I’m going to stop right there and ask here since I’m pretty sure perfect condition original hub caps aren’t something I can just up and replace. These havnt moved in 9 years.
There is a bump on the rim in 3 places that you need to pry on using some thing with a chisel edge. Find the bump and gently tap tap. I am sure that a old school tire iron end would work. Maybe one of those hub cap tools.
Sweet. Thanks! I got them off. I found a very small 'seal removal tool' of some kind in my shop. I used the flat part and a piece of stick for a lever and they popped right off. LOL. No damage.
Now I got to get these brakes in order. Man, the rotors were BRAND NEW 8 years ago, but the local parts house wants me to remove all the bearings, races, and studs to turn them, so that sucks. I'll just buy new ones. It sucks though, because otherwise these are great with some surface rust. I wish there was a way to upgrade these to hub + rotor instead of hub & rotor. LOL.
I would think that you can use some flat elbow grease to clean off surface rust from setting 8 years versus getting them turned, let alone buying new ones.

See your other post on the rotors.
Let me guess this was a kid of 20 something that said this? Bet he only seen new cars / trucks where the rotor slip over the hub and that is how they are brought in.
You only need to remove the bearings and seals nothing else. The races and studs stay in.
They have adapters that fit where the bearings fit and it runs true for turning.

two O’REILLY told me EVERYTHING has to come out. Lol. Not sure how old the guys were but one said “I’m the only one that knows how to do this and that’s how they got to come in”.
