I'm still looking at adding a DPK to my 2017 6.7. I've seen a lot of comments in favor of the S&S kit but not really anything on SPE's kit. I see the SPE kit has just been redesigned too. What is everyone's general consensus on why the S&S might be better than the SPE?

Biggest thing I see is the filtration, 9 microns on the donaldson filter in the S&S kit, but a not nearly as good 20 microns in the SPE.
I think 20 micron metal trash particles passing through to the injectors could be an issue.
I don't have any first hand experience with them, but I've heard for years the SPE should stand for "Should've Purchased Elsewhere". Never heard anything good about their customer service. S&S seems to be the favorite. I don't have the DPK but I did opt for the DCR conversion and S&S customer was great during the ordering process and getting it shipped to me quickly since the shop that did my DCR had a earlier opening to have it installed
If you have the spare coin just get a DCR. I feel the DPK's are a waste of money now that you can just fix the problem and not worry about it anymore. If you're worried enough about it to spend the money on a DPK then you have probably accepted the fact that there is a good chance of the CP4 failing. Spend the extra upfront and it'll be cheaper than your CP4 failing later after you have installed a DPK. At least that's how I look at it.
A DCR installation is 100% more cost than a DPK installation. That's the hang up.
I ended up going with the S&S DPK because it's a proven design, more positive reviews and experience out there with it, and my diesel shop recommended it. Who knows if my HPFP will ever have issues? I just wanted a little insurance in case it does.
Customer support seems to be the big driver of what people seem to prefer about S&S over SPE. In addition, S&S filter is more easily serviced and frankly better than SPE. I have the SPE gen 1 DPK and their cold side pipe, neither purchased directly through SPE full disclosure. Fit and finish on both is great, machine work is beautiful that said I haven't heard they are the easiest to deal with.
The updated DPK looks like a mixed bag to me, not sure if tee'ing the QC fittings was the way to do, Ford did that for the injector return line on the 11-16 and went away from it for 2017+. The original distribution block SPE used was really nice and the return filter with sensor seems like an interesting idea.
I installed the S&S on my 2015 F250 primarily due to the lower micron filtration capability. The filter also flows at least as good as having no DPK at all...so that seemed to be another positive attribute. Hopefully the new owner never has to use it as I installed the DPK after spending $8K to replace the entire fuel system.

I have a 6.7L 2017 F350 with 130,000 miles. Plan on ordering a 2025 this winter. However in October we are taking a month long trip from Ohio to New Mexico & Arizona pulling our 38 ft 5th wheel & the protection of a DPK on a long trip makes sense to me. I see the kit price is $400. Can someone tell me how much it runs for an authorized dealer install? Thanks

Realistically, you can install it yourself. They have a really good video on their website. When I was getting quotes for the complete fuel system on my 2015, one shop quoted an additional $400.00 plus the cost of the DPK to install it. I have no idea if that is average. Likely depends on where you live.
I forgot to add, two other shops included it in the price of the rest of the installation...since everything else would be torn apart anyway. In reality, the only additional time was mounting the remote filter.
$2K seems like a lot of money, but on a truck where the mud flaps cost $700, everything is relative.
I think if I was going to do anything, I'd just do the DCR and be done with it. I was leafing through the install instructions and it doesn't seem too terrible. Probably the biggest thing is just getting over one's nervousness of attempting it. If I was to do it, there is an independent diesel mechanic that I would float it past to see what he'd charge, but I'd certainly contemplate attempting it.
I wonder if Ford would install one if the fuel system **** the bed? Especially if they didn't fix it as a warranty claim.
