1974 F250, Pertronix ignition system with Flamethrower coil. My truck just shuts down. Intermittently, it can be at
a stoplight or on the road. I just put it in neutral, turn the key and it starts right up and drives OK till the next time
it decides to shut down. I switched tanks, same thing. I know it could be anything, but before start replacing
parts I thought I would ask for ideas. This problem could be dangerous on the highway, Thanks Guys.
Sounds like Pertronix. I'd rather have your points back.
Yep a member in the older truck area had this same issue and he replaced the unit and all good again.
It has been posted to get a 2 wire light bulb socket and some wire.
Hook 1 side of the bulb to the - side of the coil and the other wire to ground and place it up near the windshield so you can see it when driving.
The light should blink if you are getting spark as the unit is sending that signal to the coil.
So if the light stops lighting up the unit is bad.
If you think maybe the coil is not getting power IE:the IGN switch is bad.
Move the wire over to the + side of the coil and if it dose not light with key on that is the problem.

Thanks for the tips. I first thought fuel pump, but I think I will replace the Pertronix and coil since I have
a new set of points and Cond. also the original coil. That is , once this 95 - 100 degree weather lets up.
How are you doing powering this whole set up? Original ignition wire? It has a resistor wire in it. Pertronix don't like that. Depending on the model of it, it can get fried if you leave key on and not running. A regular points and condenser can. I have no Pertronix on anything. Thats just me though.
Ran a new wire to the Pertronix when I put it in. 12V. I still have to try the light bulb trick. I think you all are on the right track.
Will post when I find it.

stalling in the middle of traffic is pretty un-nerving isnt it, lol
. its happened to me twice this summer and first time i wasnt even coasting just stopped at a light.
Vehicles are just Zooming by, others behind you blowing their horns, even though your hazards are on.
2nd time w/o any PB or PS i was still able to coast off into the grass at least.
on the bright side cruising slower neighborhoods in a truck that may stall out any minute doesnt phase me a bit after thos two freeway incidents.
Some people are so inconsiderate. July hot up over 7000 ft altitude in my 78. Stopped for gas and shut it off. Soon as I shut it off started boiling over. I started it back up and it quit boiling. Outside of the truck was so hot couldn't touch it. Gas was boiling in tank, couldn't add any. I had bought gas at lower altitude. Guy with a new Dodge pulled up and said my advice as he spit a chew out was next time buy a Dodge. I was pulling a U-Haul trailer for a friend. Rude people are not worth and argument.
