Flywheel broken?
I've got an 89 F250 with a 7.3 IDI and a ZF5. I recently put in a brand new napa brand clutch and flywheel roughly 4 months ago. My truck has been inoperable due to some fueling issues which I got fixed, started it up was running fine, was bleeding the lines for air when my power steering belt came loose and was hitting the fan. I shut the truck off to tighten the belt and when I went to start it again the starter engaged and spun but it just made an awful mechanical grinding noise. I climbed under the truck and put a screwdriver between the flywheel and the back of the motor, and it moves fore and aft about a 1/4 inch. I assume obviously this means the flywheel is junk. Anybody experienced this? I really don't want to drop the trans in my driveway again, but I figure I'm going to have to. When I put it in there was a consistent slight grinding noise and I now think that somehow it could have been slowly cutting itself in half? I honestly don't understand what happened and am just looking for any info, thanks in advance.
