After changing out a motor the sterter and flywheel has a noise, like the teeth arent meshing properly. Prior to this id never heard this noise because the motor was froze up. The flywheel had been marked with a paint marker 351w, thats what its on now. This truck has a 84 motor351w and the truck is a 86 f250 4x4 with an automatic tranny. Were different flywheels used in these years? or could the ppior mechanic put the wrong starter on ? Is there any problems on these year trucks with flywheel troubles. One more question. does the weight in the flywweel face the front of the truck? please help
Starters are all the same but there are different flywheels for different transmissions. What one do you have? The flywheel weight goes towards the engine when you are mounting it.. that puts the flat surface towards the clutch.
The transmission is a c-6 automatic, the weight is towards the motor, just wondering if someone could hav installed it wrong. Do you know if your sopposed to put any sealant on the flywheel bolts? I used anti seize.
OH.. then technically that's a flexplate not a flywheel. Yes there should be sealant on the flexplate bolts.. that could be your leak right there. The dished side of the flexplate goes towards the tranny too.
I thought the flex plate was the tin that gats sandwiched between the block and transmission, foward of the flywheel. THats where the oil runs down and drips. IT would be good news if the leak was from the threads. What type of sealant should I use?
