2018 f150 trailer light module

I have a 2018 F150 and both the 4 pin and 7 pin I have only signals and brake lights the lights on or running lights do not work but they use to.
Last November we rented a uhaul 6x12 enclosed trailer and we got pulled over in Montana around 1 a.m., the officer said we had no trailer lights which was news to me. Upon getting to a uhaul location in the morning the tech there said there was a ground issue. As he dragged a chain across the tongue it was giving off small sparks (still hooked to the reciever), I think it may have fried something in the module under the dash.

The actual trailer wiring had multiple splices along the tongue. Anyone shed some light or your thoughts?

Take a set of jumper cables and run a ground from the truck frame to trailer frame for testing.

Edit: I saved this picture from another website, you might check the ground on G400

As a note. During that trip I ran a jump wire from the battery to the trailer wiring and tapped into the running lights wire to give constant power to them, when I would stop for any length of time I would just undo the wire at the battery.
