4 pin trailer lights not working

4 pin trailer lights not working
I hate electrical stuff. That said, I am wondering how the trailer lights on a borrowed trailer could be not working but when I use my key fob to lock my Excursion, all the trailer lights still flash just like the Excursion's. wtf? There's NO lights working at all. Not parking/running lights, not flashers, not turn signals. But all trailer lights still flash when locking the truck. ???
My '04 Excursion 6.0L PSD has the factory towing package with a 4 pin trailer light connector as well as the 7 pin round one. All the lights work great on our new-to-us pop up camper we just got, that one uses the 7 pin round connection. I've used other trailers with the 4 pin and those trailer lights worked fine, so it's not my truck.
Any ideas greatly appreciated, thanks all.

I second this, run a dedicated ground from the truck frame to the trailer frame and check. You can not depend on a good ground through the hitch.
