YMMV but my truck died 1 mile into the trip to TS '13 (a 1500-mile jaunt). After opening the hood to look for a cause, it restarted and I got about halfway back to my house. Repeated until I got home.
I felt the coil and it was smoking hot. A replacement fixed it. This was on a 12v system, with an MSD electronic distributor. Later I tested the old coil and it checked out fine when cool, but apparently it had some internal fault that raised the temperature to where the coils opened or shorted.
Electronic ignitions are hard on coils. I have read many stories about Flamethrower coils failing prematurely. Pertronix just buys coils from the usual suspects and slaps their name on it. There is no need to use a coil that puts out any more than 25kV on a flathead.
I have seen posts of guys that do this kit to later cars / trucks also keep a set of points in the glove box (and tools) so when something like this happens they pop the points in and motor on.
The Motorcraft DSII boxes from 75> and the TFI in the dist. 86> do the same thing. Heat up and no spark, cool off and you get spark.
They also do some other crazy things like low power / ping as they change timing and they are not made to do that.
Just my .02

Good luck on the fix

Well...I have points and a condenser in the glove box, but it's not a 5 minute swap. I can wait for a new Pertronix unit, but the points will stay in the glove box for road trips.
The new pertronix Ignitor came Friday, I put it in today. Easy installation and my truck, where I was happy with the way it was running, is running even better now, faster start, smoother idle and acceleration. I’m fairly confident that module was failing for awhile. I think I’ll buy another to keep in the tool kit.
Glad you are back on the road! But at over $100 a pop, you could have saved so much money with traditional points!
Maybe, but my experience with condensers has not been good. I went through 3 last year, including one NOS. I also find the truck runs better with the pertronix. I’m disappointed that it failed.
Glad you are back on the road.
Bob, I passed through Naples today and thought of you. Will you be visiting the lake in Maine this fall? PM me if you have time.

My wife and oldest daughter just got home from the lake. Kevin has been hard at work on the site, you won't recognize it. We plan to go up for a few days this fall to finish collecting my late Father-in-laws belongings. I'll let you know.
