Up until a week or so ago when I searched for a topic by typing in the address box near the top of Internet Explorer, I got a list of "found" sites on the left side of the screen and a small thumbnail of the pages on the right. Somehow, my search engine got switched to some page that doesn't seem to locate anything. How can I switch back to what I had before?
Sounds like you got hijacked. Same thing happened to me. Whenever I reboot the PC the new "search" page comes up. If you do a search on FTE, there was a thread a while back that listed how to get rid of it.
If this is indeed your problem, that is. Good luck.
I had the same thing happen and could not get rid of it and get back to the default MSN Search.
The solution is to 'repair' IE.
Go to Control Panel, Add/Remove programs.
Locate Internet Explorer and click on it. If you have the option (based upon operating system) to 'repair', choose that and execute it. This restores IE to a previous saved version. It cleared this problem up completely.
You still need to download Ad-Aware and run it to remove all spyware.

They are free at www.download.com
I downloaded Ad-Aware 6.0 and ran the scan. After deleteing a ton of infected files I was restored to my original MSN search engine. Now I'm scanning about once a week and am suprised at how fast the spyware returns. Anyway, thanks for the very helpful suggestion.
