some lame **** search engine has installed itself on my computer. when i hit the search button this other search comes up not the msn that i use. i have changed it before but can not for the life of me remember how. so my question, how do i change my search provider back to msn...i have win 98
thanks...this is driving me crazy
In IE, click on the search button and open the side search bar. At the top of the search side bar click on "Customize" and it will open a customize window. In that window chose the search you wish and you can click on the autosearch button at the bottom and chose a search engine.
Also check out Spybot http://download.com.com/3000-8022-10122137.html , you should have Ad Aware as said too .... and keep them updated regular, ( spybot ain't been updated at the moment , but it will , so it's worth havin too ) ....
Without goin to much into it id get Mozilla web borwser, http://www.mozilla.org/ and stop using IE , its got more security holes than i've had beer this week !!!
Mozilla is faster , and safer than IE ...
Id set the homepage for your browser to Google , it's a better search engine than MSM
If your on a dial up a Firewall is a good idea , if your on Cable ADSL or BB then a Firewall is a must ....

yeaaaaaa i found it .. i had to go into tools, internet opitions and set everything back to the defaults. and the spy ware stuff found the hijacked ie search and changed it back. i would love to find the people who do this and punch them in the face
thanks for the help
Glad you got it fixed. I ended up reformatting my whole hard drive when I got the Xupiter hijacker. That was before I discovered The Spyware duo. Xupiter made it so I couldn't download upgrades to my virus scan, couldn't do a system restore and could barely get anywhere on the net. I'd click a site and it would suddenly add a bunch of stuff to the web addy and then I'd be redirected to their search engine.
Hijackers are no better than people who send viruses, etc out. They are criminals IMHO and should be treated as such.
