Thanks for sharing the part. I guess it’s not really all that necessary to have it connected. The tranny just won’t downshift when I want to pass someone. I will replace it eventually, but is there any potential harm to the transmission right now having that arm just dangling unsecure
I just finished replacing these seal/o-ring on the shift linkage last night (vice grips and rage were needed to get it out of there). my kick down lever was bent out of position inside the case so I broke the inside part off. and put the shaft back in to plug the hole (scroll to the bottom of this post) . you will have to pull the valve body out ofthe trans, which is 8 of the larger bolts - keep track of them as they are differnt lengths. there will be more fluid that comes out afte rthe valve body is removed. .
I need some help guys. In the process of changing the gaskets in the transmission pan plus seals etc. when I got to this part I think something is off or missing. There was a zip tie that I couldn’t figure out what purpose it was serving so I clipped it off, but the piece circled in my pic is loosely hanging there. The video I’m following from YouTube seems to have this piece securely in place at a higher level.
Is something missing or is it okay for that piece to just dangle at that level? I appreciate any help. I may pause the project in hopes of a response.
take that dangling piece off. no sense in it bouncing around. but put the nut back on the shaft. otherwise that shaft will freely move/shift in and out of the case. There is a small o-ring there and if the shaft moves too far inward, then the oring will not seal anymore and trans fluid can come out.

Thanks for that, I haven’t had time to work on the truck until today so will do that.
Today’s project is the water pump. And maybe the brake master cylinder and booster. I’ll have to see if the bleeding valves will cooperate
2X on at least checking how loose the timing chain is. And if it's the original nylon tooth cam gear. I would probably check to see if your thermostat opens in a pan of water on your stove top. Just because a part is new nowadays doesn't guarantee it's good. Made in chlna crap.
Some progress has been made to get the truck up to cruising conditions. The trans pan is no longer leaking, I changed the gasket and also put a nice shiny new cover on it. I also changed some of the other seals down there.
I replaced the brake booster and master cylinder along with those top brake lines. The truck stops like it should now and no more air leaks. I bench bled the master cylinder then I bled all four wheels. First time I’ve done that and it was easier than I imagined.
I also managed to score a seat! I don’t know what it came off of or if it’s a front or back row seat. It looks like a back row to me. The lady said she didn’t know only that it came off of a ford and she wanted it out of her garage. It was only $40!
So I’m currently stuck sourcing some parts for the shift collar. Long story short the shift collar needs to be replaced and I cannot find the detent spring, that pin that holds the spring down and the bolts. Those parts weren’t in the collar on my truck. Most shift collars (I have one on the way) only come with a spring but not the screws or that pin thing that holds it down. Apparently no one makes those pieces anymore. Does any e have any leads on these parts or have found how to effectively replace them with other parts from Home Depot etc?
I’ve been scouring Facebook pages and eBay. I’m even willing to buy a complete used collar just to get those pieces but cannot find one. I really want to get the truck back in the road and need those. Any help is again appreciated.
