I probably have a really simple question for you, i have a 98 explorer that needs some work done to it, mainly a water pump change and basic tune-up. Even though i refer to the vehicle as 'mine' it belongs to a co-worker, and she has decided to take it to a shop for the water pump change, but she is getting quotes of 5+ hours to do the job. Does anyone have a good idea, or know, how long it should take to change the water pump? I know i can change mine in less than an hour but thats on a 1966 289, i don't have a clue about a 1998 302.
Thanks for the help everyone!!!
Edit: She is doing the tune-up herself, the five hour estimate is just for the water pump.

Reason: added information
Thats a 4.6 L v-8 motor and a little more involved than any 60's car or truck. The time given you was a national avg. time frame to do the job plus any unforseen problems that you dont think could ever happen during a job like this cause its so easy right. Well sometimes its best to pay the pros to do the job you dont even know how long it takes to do. ( NOT BEING A JERK JUST GIVING YOU THEIR POINT OF VIEW). Any way it would take the avg. handy car guy about 2.5 hrs provided you dont make four trips to the parts store. Good luck, any ?s feel free to ask.
