Hi all, I recently purchased a 1991 F-SuperDuty with the 7.3 IDI. It has 114,000 original miles with nothing done to the motor besides normal maintenance. I was told it burned a little bit of oil when towing but, nothing major. I hauled 11,000 lbs 70 miles round trip and it burned roughly 2.5 qts of oil. I did notice more white smoke than I was expecting. I bought a new CDR valve thinking that would be a good place to start. While removing it, the hose has broke in half. What is the best way to remove the rest of the hose from behind the intake? It is slowly coming out peice by peice but, I’m afraid I will drop some in there.
Any suggestions or advice is appreciated.
Thanks.

Buy a $3 MicroTorch at local Dollar General.
In checkout area with cigarette lighters
Heat it to soften it or, worst case, fry it.
Everyone should should have a few different sizes of these torches. Great for so many things a larger torche would ruin.
That's just a grommet. Some CDRs even come with a new grommet and hose piece. Stuff oily rag in below it to catch the stuff and just carefully nip it out with small wire cutters (blue handled Plato) or heat it up. Be aware the valley pan it's inserted into is thin, soft sheet metal and if it gets damaged you have to pull IP to get manifold off. They can be spendy, also.
i have seen many people just punch what is left of the grommet like you have into the valley and leave it there. then put the new one in and call it good to go.
So that outside ring is supposed to come out too? I thought that piece stayed in. If that is the case I can nip the whole thing to prices and get it out I just didn’t want to hurt anything I didn’t have to.
The tube on the right is all rubber, mine broke off when I pulled out the CDR. I didn’t have anything handy so I took one of those single blade small exacto knives and cut it out. Just be careful not to drop anything down inside.
The big flat seal on the left is between the CDR and intake as you already know
