Blowby issue?
It is a 2001 ford superduty f250 7.3 L it has 210000 miles i was looking at it earlier and its blowing blue smoke out of the exhaust i called a mechanic he said to check if there is a blow by and i took the oil cap off and there is a small amount of smoke coming out of the oil fill tube its also pushing oil in th intake it was soaked need help i talked to my dad he said they have a oil rod or pcv that could cause excessive blowby and smoke
The CCV aka "dog house" (driver side valve cover) has a wire mesh that sometimes gets cake up with oil, remove the two philips screws wash it with gas, brake cleaner, dry it out and re install it.
Excessive blow by test: remove oil fill cap fip it up side down on the fill tube while truck is running and see if it gets blown off if so bad news,
Also bad turbo seals will do crazy thing take a look at the exhaust side for oil.

I am not sure what an oil rod is. These trucks have a crank case vent and I suppose it could get clogged, but I doubt it. Most of these trucks will have little puffs of smoke when you take the oil cap off at 210,000 miles. That's nothing to worry about. If you flip the cap over and place the oil cap on the tube, and the pressure blows it off, then it is probably excessive blow by and you may have bad rings. blue smoke out of the exhaust is definitely oil so you have a consumption problem somewhere. Have you checked the turbo wheel for end play and side to side motion? That would be where I would look first.

Welcome to FTE Bruce. When talking of blowby in a 7.3, ignore the smoke you see. It's only about pressure. Back when I only had a couple hundred thousand miles on my truck I started trying out different oils. I had lab analysis done on the used oil when I changed each one to see if I needed to be using one over the other.
Lab reports came back good enough on all the oils I tried. I did notice the amount of smoke and the associated odor coming out the fill tube varied with each different oil, and sometimes even depending on the mileage on the oil. (I changed all oils at 5,000 miles).
Mobil Delvac smoked and stank the most after 4,000 miles if I remember correctly, but it tested out fine and I still use it today on occasion without any concern.
The factory crankcase is routed back into the air intake before the turbo, so if it's left in this set up, you're always going to have those oil vapors going into the intake system and condensing back into oil in the CAC system.
The real test for blowby is to take the oil cap off and flip it upside down and set it back on the fill tube. Regardless of the amount of smoke coming out of the fill tube, watch the cap. If there is enough pressure to pop the cap up and off of the tube, you've got an issue. If it just vibrates around and slides off the tube, then everything is good in terms of blowby.
I've got over 530,000 miles on my 7.3 now and I can still make it smoke a bunch or not at all out of the fill tube depending on oil brand, miles on oil, and temperature of engine. Pressure is all you need to be concerned with (at least for the first 530,000 miles or so)

I did the cap test and it did not blow it off so im not sure i will try the ccv mesh and clean it tomorrow with brake cleaner and see what that does the intake was covered in oil though when i took it off and looked in it earlier if it is the turbo are there rebuild kits to get i dont have a lot of money right now for a turbo
Yes, you can rebuild your turbo for cheap look at spturboost.com they got some good kits well made and wont brake the bank, your engine is probably fine, as the ccv do tend to leave oil residue in the cca boots and pipes.
So is there a foolproof way to know that it is the turbo that's causing the leak cause it is not leaking oil in the valley of the motor
