burnning oil

Hi everyone its been a while since my computers been down. Ok I have a few problems i need some help with. Its seems that my truck is burning about two courts of oil every 300 or so miles there are no oil leaks so what can I do and where do i start. Also it seems like my truck has started smoking a littler more even when sitting at a stop light it smokes a little blue or white smoke. Im not sure if this is because it is a lot hotter out now or if it is related to my oil burning. Any help would be great. also it really smokes when towing

1993 f250 ext cab 7.3 idi 4x4 125000 mi.

Check the CDR.
It could be valve guide seals.
It could be rings.
If turbo'd it could be the turbo.

My vote goes to the CDR needs cleaned or replaced.

How many miles on the engine?

How do you clean the CDR? I am having the same problem, mine smokes at idle and when I barely touch the accelerator pedal and goes away any other time.

Remove it and drop it in a small pan of gasoline.

If the CDR has never been cleaned, it will take several hours of soaking and agitating to disolve the gunky oil tar buildup inside.

When you are agitating it, dump out the dirty gasoline and look for small chunks of rubber diaphram to come out.
If you see them, the CDR diaphram has ruptured and you need to replace it.

When it looks shiney and new inside, shake out as much gasoline as you can, then lay it aside to dry before you reinstall it.

NEVER blow compressed air into the CDR, you will rupture the diaphram.

Also make sure the small hole is open.

If you don't mind a bit of oil taste, you can use your mouth to blow in the small hole with your finger against the washer inside the CDR from the intake side.
When you blow, you should feel the washer move.

Yes, you have to blow a bit hard to make it move.

Mine is a turbo engine, so the bottom tube is shorter on mine.

Soak it in a bucket of gas, do not blow it out with air.

If you get rubber chunks, the diaphragm is deteriorated and the CDR needs replacing.

CDR Test

or one can just replace it with a road draft tube, although i cant remember where the how-to is for that...i wanna do it myself, it takes and vents the crankcase gases into open air instead of into the intake manifold, allowing for a more normal burn on the 7th and 8th cylinders, this btw is how semi truck motors are vented, thats y u will see some smoke from under the engine and or a tube or pipe/hose hanging down.

You will get a vapor cloud and oil drips from a road draft tube on an IDI engine.

i dont much care about oil drips and a smoke cloud....moreso the lessened chance of cavitaion damage

bc the CDR dumps the oil vapor mostly into cylinders 7and8 resulting in higher cylinder temperatures because motor oil has more BTUs than diesel and heat is a factor in cavitation

The CDR has possibly a very small impact on cavitation.
The only way heat has any affect on cavitation is with higher cylinder pressures which causes more violent vibrations in the cylinder walls.

If the CDR is not maintained, it has a much larger impact on head gasket life because of the higher cylinder pressures in the rear cylinders.

Best way to minimize both head gasket damage and cavitation, service the CDR every other oil change at a minimum.

cdr

I've checked my cdr valve and its ok. The blue smoke seems to occur when im on a steep hill or when towing. But if i really lay into the throttle it becomes black. At idle the smoke seems to be white but its hard to tell I am burning a court of oil every 200 miles. Is there a way to tell if its the valve seals or the rings? My blow back is great.
