Thank you in advance for any help received.
Was driving normal down highway (60-65 mph). Truck accelerated, running thru gears just fine. Slowed for traffic and when tried to again accelerate I HAD NOTHING! It was like I had no tranny and was just coasting. Does not go into any gear or park. Any ideas?

Is it a 4x4? If so, the transfer case could be in neutral or has failed.
Has the shift cable detached from the transmission?
Yes, is 4 x 4. Transfer case seems fine. Cable still attached. When putting back in park, after attempting to put in gear, there is a sound that's half grind/half something trying to "catch".
Missed the part about it not going in park, definitely wouldn't be caused by low fluid, it could cause the other symptoms but in this case, it sounds like either the trans or xfer case is going to need some internal work.

The underlined part shows that the transfer case is not fine. It is either in neutral or it has failed. Why do you think it is fine?
What type of transfer case shifter do you have…the electric **** on the dash or the floor shifter?
if it’s the floor shifter then try moving the shifter forward into 2wd high to rule out the transfer case in neutral.
if you have the ****….neutral isn’t an option unless the shifter motor on the transfer case is stuck between positions or something weird.
The electric select system can be put in tow mode which puts the xfer case in neutral. However it wouldn't make any noise or feel like something trying to engage as the op described.

That noise is made by the park mechanism in the transmission trying to engage while the output shaft is turning. The output shaft is turning because the transfer case is in neutral or has failed.
