Same old 94 with E4OD again, went to start the truck and had nothing so I had to jump the solenoid to get back home. Some may remember awhile back I had this random no start issue but that went away and haven't had an issue since...until today. To make a long story short I confirmed that the Neutral Safety Switch has failed and I'm at a standstill with very few options. I could not for the life of me find a Motorcraft NSS and I don't want to put the same proclaimed "OEM" replacement in because this friggin sensor didn't even last a year so I called Ford up and as I was expecting, Ford does not make a NSS leaving me clueless what to do. Does anyone know of any aftermarket NSS that won't fail in under a year? With being stabbed in the back by every aftermarket sensor I've put on this thing I am unsure what I should do.
It was a ROSTRA 501062 sensor from RockAuto. When I got it on the package it claimed to be an OEM replacement but I guess that didn't mean ****. I went ahead and ordered a WVE 1S5328 sensor from the Rock because it has a 3 year/36,000 mile warranty but I fear it will be the same story as the other one.
It's not unusual, but I'm confused. Your first sentence says you jumped the (starter) solenoid to get the truck running and was able to drive it home. This would imply that the MLPS was working. You then go into details about the MLPS being bad. The two are not connected directly so fixing one won't fix the other. It could be that your root problem is upstream of both components.

Then why is it when I bypass the NSS with the MLPS unplugged the truck fires right up but as soon as I plug it back in I got nothing? I have already confirmed I had no power going through the switched wire to the solenoid when the MLPS was plugged in but the ignition key checked out and was not the problem. Maybe I worded it a bit goofy as I was in a hurry at the time but I'm almost certain it's the MLPS/NSS.
If the resistance checks of the MLPS are out-of-range, it is indeed faulty. A trip to your local u-pull-it might be the only option to get a true Ford replacement.
Now that I think about it more, you are probably on the right track. Without the MLPS saying "Start = OK", I'll bet you won't have power on that switched connector on the starter relay. Replacing the MLPS will probably be the overall fix.
According to the resident trans engineer on here (Mark)
Standard Motor Products made the MLPs for Ford
I sure would like to have my NGS on your van reading the MLP pid to verify your diagnosis
I have seen all kinds of trouble with 1994-1995s regarding the alarm and remotes (whether you think yours has one or not)
Friends truck intermittent no crank boiled down to needing the drivers or (passengers' door in his case) unlocked, (with the key) before it would start
His theft light was not blinking and he owned no remotes for the truck
Try that just in case (unlocking both doors with the key)
I sure would be checking Ebay (weekly) for a NOS Ford MLP using the Ford part number & any updated numbers out there
Ford gave you the part number correct?

Interesting. I knew 94 had the option for security but never knew it could cause that much trouble so I will double check. And no I forgot to ask for one and figured since Ford didn't make it anymore I wasn't going to have luck finding one, but I will browse the Internet and see if I can find the part number.
I recently changed out the MLPS in my 94, I got through NAPA. It came with the complete harness , but the fellow that did it for me just used the switch part itself.
A simple DVM to measure the MLPS output, the Starter Relay section, is all you need to verify the MLPS is the root cause. Also verify the MLPS is properly aligned and the shifter cable attachment screws are tight.
When I replaced mine a few years ago I also had to repin the connector so that each colored wire was in the proper location. Not sure why it came the way it did, but there were instructions in the box, so it must be a multi-purpose MLPS. Something to check if yours is acting weird.
The MLPS connector was redesigned around 1995. That required a new style MLPS connector. Ford stopped making the older style, so when the old stock was gone you were forced to use the newer and better design. When using the new style MLPS on a 1994 and earlier truck you remove the pins from the existing MLPS connector, then install them on the new connector. Once done, snap the new style connector on the new MLPS. The better aftermarket version MLPS sensor typically comes with the instructions for how to do the pin swap over.
Appreciate the extra info! And I have already switched to the new style plug so we're good there. I also did try unlocking both doors with the key to see if it was a security thing but no change so when I test the MLPS I'm expecting it to test bad.
