I have done some research regarding my transmission problem, and have narrowed it down to water intrusion on the MLP/TR sensor. Ford has addresses this thru TSB 95-2-12. Is the replacement of this as simple as buying a new sensor, replacing the old and torquing up the bolts? From what I have seen the MLP is the same as the Neutral Safety Switch which I can get at autozone for 35 bucks. Is this the correct part or should I go a different route? Thanks for the advice gentlemen.
I'd like some feedback on replacing the MLPS myself as it was suggested to replace this sensor on a previous thread I started. I checked with my local AutoZone and they don't carry the sensor so I guess I'll be forced to get it through Ford.
You can get it at parts houses, such as Napa, for about $35. Ford wants around $100. Ask for a neutral safety switch, but specify that it's for an E4OD transmission. The MLPS is pretty much just a really fancy neutral safety switch. Before you pay for the part, verify that it has the same connector as the MLPS, since electrical parts generally are not returnable.
I was looking to run the paper-clip code pulling as described by Steve83 to see if in fact I had the MLPS error code cominng up. After inspecting my setup and some further reading in my Haynes, am I right to conclude that this can't be performed on my 96 EB Bronco?
