I have a 53 F100 with the 239 flathead V8. It has been sitting still except for a couple of recent driveway miles since 1967. When I took it for a test drive the first time and got up some speed, I heard a noise that sounded like it was coming from under the dash. Also, the speedometer needle was bouncing all over the place. I bought and installed a new speedo cable but there was no change. I then cleaned and modified the old cable so I could drive the speedo with a drill, while sitting still. Same noise and bounce, but maybe a slight bit less. So, I guess it is in the speedo. The question is, is there any way to lube the speedometer internals? Maybe an oil port? What's the best way to lube the new cable? Also, if I keep running it with the drill, I wonder if it will loosen the effects of sitting unused or 57 years? And ideas will be appreciated. TIA
