My speedometer has started being noisy. What can I do beside replacing it? If I remember correctly we took off an old chebby cable once and poured some graphite down the cable. Is this an option?
Graphite is the normal choice for speedo cable lube, and it might help. Give it a try and let us know if it worked. Is it bouncing, or showing off-speed from normal?
You may also want to remove it from the housing, and check the drive gears inside the speedo. If they are wearing, adding some white grease might save them for a bit, but it's going to be time for a trip to the wrecker soon if this is the case.
Thanks RR4E. It's chattering/bouncing. I'll try the suggestion and it sounds like I should pull the speedometer out of my parts truck while I still have it.
(...just in case..)
