Is my 39 truck a 39 truck.
Is my 39 truck a 39 truck.
I purchased my truck from FB marketplace, located in WV. I have a WV title that lists it as a 39, official bill of sale stated as a 39. But the sales listing listed it as being on a 72 chevy nova chassis and a 10 bolt chevy rearend. It came with a 1980 351M. The body and fenders are steel, 14" mag wheels on the front and 15" on the rear for the proper stance
It has a C6 transmission and a B&M shifter. Also, has the 2 original gold instruments in front of the steering wheel(they are non functional. It has all the small instuments just above the windshield and a Sun tach mounted on the dash top.
I guess my only question is what you folks would call it.....lol.

Something doesn't add up. '39 Ford p/u's were registered by a serial number stamped on the frame. The number was also on the transmission near where it bolts onto the block. So if your truck is on a Nova frame with an automatic transmission there are no original serial numbers to indicate it is a '39. So either someone went through the process in WV to legally change the title to show that it is a '39 with new numbers or something is iffy with the title.
Mystery solved....lol. When the owner I purchased the truck from(everything had been changed, frame, engine, transmission, etc......the person that sold him the truck had the original title, complete with the correct VIN # starting with 18, as it had the 85 horse flathead.
So when the the man who sold it to me went to the WV DMV.....he handed them the original titile(a real 39) and they just issued the new title(which I have) with the original VIN....... making it a 1939 Ford truck! It must be a specail model now....lol....with a 1980 351M, C6 transmission, a 1972 chevy nova frame and a 10 bolt chevy rear end.

So now it appears that you have a title that doesn't match the vehicle. That is a huge issue. First, you can't prove you own the vehicle since the controlling factory frame stamped number is not on the title. Secondly, this also impacts vehicle insurance as in your actual vehicle is not insured since that too follows the controlling frame stamped identification. Time for a chat with your attorney and/or DMV offices on how to resolve. The forum is not the place to resolve legal issues such as this.
So if you ever get stopped and the cop wants to check the vin, the number on your title is no where to be found on the truck. Correct? Or if you go to sell the truck and the buyer wants to check the vin, what then? Too sketchy for me but that's JMO.
Not that this is the right thing to do but get a number stamp and put the VIN on the frame
The right thing would be to check with the DMV or State Police to see what they have to say.
Most states when the VIN is no longer to be seen like in this case, the state DMV gives a new VIN sticker to put where they want it.
I seen one on the firewall at the last show and others want it on the drivers door jamb.
Then a new title is issued with the new VIN that matches the paperwork.

Much better advice there...
It sounds like you have a 1972 Nova with a 1939 truck body. Call the state office of your DMV to find out how your state requires it to be registered. You will not get legal information in a forum.
The 1939 serial number started with the transmission. The frame was stamped to match the transmission.
How about some pictures while we are waiting for the rest of the story.
