I recently acquired these 04 F250 Harley Davidson wheels on FB Marketplace. In trying to determine how old the tires are (seller claims only 3k mi on them), the DOT code is only 3 digits (045) making these a concerning 29 years old... supposedly. However, I'm having a hard time believing this, despite looks as we know looks can be deceiving, but mainly because the tire brand 'Xcellent' was not in existence until March of 2020. Anyone able to help me make heads or tails of this?
At nearly 4 years old, and being an off-brand Thailand/Vietnam/China tire, you better look them over really good for cracks between the tread blocks before trusting them with your life.
I am a HUGE proponent of name brand/quality tires when asked for suggestions from other people who rely on one or two vehicles for transportation........ but for my own garbage I run the cheapest rubber I can buy. I might put 2000 or 3000 miles on any given vehicle per year and some don't move for 2 or 3 years so my tires will always "age out" before they "wear out" and I can't justify paying 3 times more for tires that might get 10,000 miles on them before I deem them unsafe - regardless of how they look.

Noted. Thanks for the tip. Historically, I've only ever had reputable, name-brand rubber. Not finding any cracks, but as soon as I do, I'll be quick to pull out before the risk of an accident increases.
Sorry, I'm a child. As soon as I recognized the first sexual innuendo, I couldn't restrain myself.
