New member here. Recently purchased a 1998 Class C Motorhome. E350 chassis. V-10, E4OD. 25K original miles. Transmission issue. For whatever reason, it is very hard to move the shift lever from Park to any other position. I removed the shift cable from the trans and the shifter and the cable work just fine. I got a feeling it's the shift lever on the trans. Must have corroded from little use. Guess it's time to drop the pan and take a look. Needs fixing before something in the steering collum breaks. Anything else I should look for while I have the pan off?
Can you nudge the RV forward then try to shift, then nudge backward then try to shift? Block the wheels so they can’t roll more than an inch while you’re under!! Or get the rear wheels off the ground(!).
I blocked the wheels and tried that yesterday. Gotta use a big pair of channel locks to turn the shift lever. Something is not right inside the Trans. The fluid looks and smells ok. And it shifts fine. I drove it 100 miles to get it home last week.
Had to take a break from the action, Had a Drs appointment yesterday. Been a while since I've seen the inside of an E4OD. It'll come back. Use to have a '94 F350. 7.3 and E4OD. HYPERMAX turbo. Took the trans out to replace the T/C. And the valve body out to do a shift kit.
Will be pulling the pan soon. Got a few other things that need doin first. I'll post an update soon as I get back to it.
tabijan, it's difficult to ant position.
Also need to find a diagram.
Got back to working on the motorhome. Removed the DTR and it shifts nice and smooth now. Got the new DTR. Waiting for the rain to stop. I'm on the Texas coast. Tropical storm coming in.
Wonderful, just the transmission range sensor needs replaced
I see them get tight, never as bad as yours was apparently
The two little lineup marks should be neutral on the new MLP or TR
Good luck
