Yes, everyone but Talyn seemed to understand what was going on.

The correct pre filled master and slave set is ordered, I'll be picking it up after work. I likely won't have it installed until tomorrow evening. Hopefully this solves the issue.

He’s just trying to help. It is certainly strange that bearing was backwards in there before. It seems like it must be an important clue about the problem, even though it was working that way before.

I hope the new hydraulic system solves the problem! If that does work, I like the idea that the backwards bearing was somehow compensating for the incorrect hydraulics.

He's definitely right about the washer/ spacer.

On the rest, he obviously barely read anything, just saw photos, then wrote two lengthy posts about an assumption on which he was confidently wrong.

I can't wrap my head around the backwards TO bearing making it work. With the bearing on the wrong side of the fork you lose the thickness of the bearing. It should make it worse?

hydralic system is self adjusting to a point on the clutch

I have seen plastic bushings cut metal shafts in half, over time

metal get into plastic from lack of lube, metal bits heat up then hardens over time and then the plastic acts like sand paper

Maybe. I haven’t put much thought into how that might work, to be honest.

THANKS TO ALL THE CONTRIBUTORS TO THIS THREAD FOR LETTING ME RACK YOUR BRAINS

I picked up the pre-bled set after work today. I finished by flashlight, but its installed. The clutch is working great. I did have to reposition the swing arm a little clockwise to not preload the master.

Here are photos of the two for comparison.

The length on the diesel master is only slightly more. I'm not sure this is apples to apples because of the different outlet configurations. The diameter, and I assume bore, is significantly larger. So, i guess, don't use a small block master in a diesel.

I'm still dumbfounded that the combination of the wrong master and a backwards throw out bearing somehow made the clutch function.

Laf, everyone getting angry. My bad I didn't read through a bunch of stuff when there was a glaring issue in the photo's. I read a bunch of stuff about replacing master cylinders, clutch forks, clutch wont work, wont engage. I read it all, and apparently missed like 3 words.
My bad.

As for that bearing working backwards? I call BS on that. but whatever.

Good you got it working now. clutches suck.

I should really just let it go, but I'm too petty.

I took those photos immediately after I removed the transmission. You can still see the transmission jack in the photos. I take photos of everything I disassemble and how it came apart for my own reference. The photo of me holding it is a "note to self" of how it came apart. How would lying about this possibly benefit me?

I drove it 80 miles round trip to work today. The clutch is working great, and its running great with the new injectors.
I installed an EGT gauge with the pyrometer at the rear of the driver's side manifold. I was shocked at what EGTs i was running with an empty truck up some long grades. I can hit 1200 without much effort. An intercooler is definitely in my future.
