I have confirmed twice that the timing mark is correct. The problem is the total timing advance is too much for this engine. WHY it is advancing that much, IDK. The thread starter said he was seeing the same on his 460 so it's not just me with this problem. There are plenty of "460 pinging" threads out there.
I agree it is not a true "fix" but it is a bandaid that is working well and is free.
There sure are plenty of carboned up 7.5's out there pinging on poor fuel
Look elsewhere for the cause for the ping
Your solution is a band-aid IMO
The timing needs to be at 10 degrees initial
Screws everything up if it is not
Check your I/M numbers if you do not believe me or the others
You should be running .06 on the CO and 45 ppm on the HC's
Yours will be running richer and not burning all the fuel, maybe .8 on the Co and 230 on the HC
We used to give 'em a drink of water when we figured they were carboned up
Be careful doing that, better left for the seasoned vets
I'm not trying to convince you or anyone else. I never asked for any of y'alls input, I was just putting out my experience for others who might be having similar problems.
Your solution is a band-aid IMO
Yeah. I know. I said that.
Be careful doing that, better left for the seasoned vets
Yes, continue to talk down to me. That will win me over for sure.
