I replaced the factory brake controller with a new oem controller. It seems to work fine but the dash display brings up the controller status when I start the truck and it's hard to make it go away. Does anyone know if this needs a computer reset by the dealer?

what do you mean by "new OEM controller". It sounds like you might have installed a non ford controller? If you installed an updated ford controller then it sounds like it is working as designed? If non ford controller, then you are stuck, there is no way to remove that display permanently.
When started the controller status comes up and I don't remember ever seeing that before. I bought this truck new six years ago. Yes you can change it but takes several attempts.

so, is this with a trailer plugged in, or not? If not, then yes, that doesn't seem quite right. I would agree a quick trip to the dealer might be in order
Suggest you try choosing "No Trailer" in the towing controls. Sometimes the display will still think a trailer is connected, even though a trailer plug isn't connected. Also, put the truck in Normal Mode, not Tow/Haul.
The system asks to name the trailer so you can track the mileage of that trailer. I finally figured out to remove the named trailer and all is normal again. This is all done on the dash display.
