Alternator recommendations
Seems I’m only getting 11.8 off the ford reman alternator prob only ~7 years old. Don’t really run too much electric on my truck ATM. Long term a 3/4000 watt pure sine inverter would be pretty cool. Now’s the time to update/go bigger if it’s worth it.

Prestolite Leece-Neville.

The "large case 6G 140 Amp" in the middle of the photo above is equivalent to the Bosch AL7606N referenced earlier in this thread.
The original stock alternator is on the left, and the giant Leece-Neville, with the largest diameter internal fans (2 of them, front and rear), and the most cooling vents in the circumferential case as well as the back rectifier cover, is on the right.
Perhaps the black color e-coating was subliminally suggestive marketing, but cast aluminum left uncoated can and does corrode:
Photo above is aluminum white corrosion forming on my OEM 110 amp alternator, which I replaced with the black coated Leece-Neville, which never has exhibited this corrosion under the same environmental conditions.
The Leece-Neville 230 amp alternator was offered by Navistar and Ford as an original equipment upgrade to the Low Cab Forward (LCF) medium duty line of box vans with the 4.5L Baby Power Stroke... which was developed with the 6.0L diesel engine, sans a couple of cylinders.
Note what I have highlighted in red below, regarding "No throttle back regulator"
To better understand what a throttle back regulator does, and how the Leece Neville is built to reject heat efficiently enough to not require output reduction at elevated temperatures, see the comparison chart below (a different model of the same AVi family of alternators is bench marked, but the rotor stator rectifier are the same)
So as to understand how the model numbers in the same family of Leece Neville alternator differ, observe the different mounting scheme of the cases:
There are a lot of knock off copies to this alternator now. Since Prestolite and Leece Neville are now owned by Broad Ocean Motor, based in China, it seems logical that production would shift to China, and once shifted to China, the mushrooming of many knock offs seems inevitable, making it difficult to navigate between choices of identically appearing alternators sold by various truck enthusiast industry retailers.
Here is how mine arrived and was packaged as assembled by the Leece-Neville alternator manufacturing plant in upstate New York, about 7 or 8 years ago:
