95 F-150 Interior door panels

Restored a 95 F-150 2-door extended cab a little while back and painted the interior door panels white, have had to re paint them once or twice because the paint has chipped easily or fast. Does vinyl wrap stay on the doors, or any tips on how to make that paint last longer?

How did you prep the panels before painting?

I have always used interior dye, not paint. SEM makes a pretty good version.
It goes on really thin, and does something... chemical... to the plastic to bond to it.
Almost as if it sinks in, altho, that's probably a woodworking concept that doesn't apply.

There is an adhesion promoter that needs to be applied first. I haven’t bought it in many , many years but what I use to buy was called Vinyl Prep.

SEM products work great. I once painted white car seats black, and after 10 years, it never came off.

Clean, clean and clean the plastic first with dish washing liquid.
Slight scuffing with red scotchbrite, followed up with wax and grease remover and I wipe with acetone which tends to soften up ABS plastics and help with adherence
Adhesion promoter is advised in most plastic applications.
I have had great results on ABS plastic by using epoxy primer instead of adhesion promoter- it sticks to almost everything pretty aggressively and takes top coats well

The stuff you spray on plastic is not a dye. Not sure who started calling these products dyes because a dye permeates the surface. Paints and coating are a surface treatment and that is what these type of products are.
Not sure I would use any of these color coating products on flexible items such as seat cushions and softer easily flexible plastics.
Here is SEM's own description of their product called Color Coat:
..............................................

Color Coat Details: SEM Color Coat (12 oz Aerosol Can) covers approximately 10 square feet. SEM Color Coat is not a dye, but a fade-resistant flexible and permanent coating, specially designed to restore or change the color of Vinyl, Plastic, Carpet and Velour. It is used for but not limited to Vehicle Seats, Dashes, Door Panels, Consoles & all Plastic trims. It can also be used for Motorcycle Seats, Vinyl Furniture and General Vinyl & Plastics.

Color Coat Clear Details: SEM Color Coat Clear (12 oz Aerosol Can) covers approximately 10 square feet. SEM Color Coat Clear is specially designed to restore or change the gloss level of Vinyl and Plastic. It is used on Vehicle interiors (as above), Motorcycle seats and General Vinyl & Plastics. Also, for added protection or change of sheen you can apply on newly painted surfaces.

Ford had a product called plastic primer we used to use with their Ford interior paint
Most of those dash parts came neutral and had to be painted
None of it lasted forever and they would need to be repainted after about 6 years or so depending on scratches etc.
