I see many many different options, some suspiciously cheap and some very expensive. Monster transmission has one for cheap but they just seem… untrustworthy (not sure why, could be totally legit).
I currently have nothing to tow, heaviest thing my truck will move this year is firewood.
stock injectors with hydra/6637/exhaust so not much power. I am still hopeful to Zf5 swap the truck as parts and pieces become locally available. But that will take time. (Don’t want to sink a ton of $ into this trans)
I don’t think I need a whiz bang 80 disc double billet tractor pull converter. But I am incredibly transmission ignorant/illiterate. So to those of you who aren’t, I ask for your assistance input and information please, thank you.
When I first bought my 95 I started modding it. A year later I had tranny issues with blinking OD. Use the help of the people here, especially Mark, which ended up being a bad torque converter. I purchased an extra low stall, triple disc converter from Torco on eBay. Dropped tranny replaced pump to TC with viton seals. Put a new deep pan with drain plug, new filter and John woods VB. Added tru cool tranny cooler and filled it all up with synthetic fluid LV. So far it’s been great for last 4 years. This extra low stall paired will with my 4.10.
I like Precision Industries...but they are not cheap. @z31freakify has some he recommendeds. Billet cover, anti balloon plate, and triple disc. He works it hard and seems fine. Transtar is big trans jobber house all over US, jump on their site and see what is available. You can willcall or ship.
100% recommend a shift kit while trans out. Lots of mods go into pump alone. I prefer the Superior Towpower kit over Transgo's Tugger, but TG makes great stuff too.
EDIT there is no easier time to do uppipes either and to drill manifold for EGT thermocouple

you told me the same thing when I did my tc about the up pipes and I did them then too. Great advice I forgot to pass on. Easiest time for some bellowed up pipes! 👏
Up pipes are on my list of maintenance items to do, already have egt probe. I’ll probably go with the Torco unit, cost seems reasonable.
now I just gotta get a clutch in my focus so my truck can be down for a bit. Thanks guys.
Torco works great for me. Just ask them to put in a drain plug on TC for future maintenance of draining. They did this at no charge. Plus they didn’t give me a core charge.
When you do the TC I highly advise you do the up pipes. So much room at that time. You’ll need an impact with long extensions stacked like 3’ to get the bolts at bell housing. Since you’re dropping pan, advise to get upgraded valve body and pan with drain plug if you don’t have one drain already. I also put in some rare earth magnets at bottom of my new deep pan near drain to help catch some particulates I may have missed when flushing after old TC started to go. Shortly after I installed a new tranny cooler. And today I put a diesel site external tranny filter kit.
