If the battery continues to drain itself in a relative quick manner the alternator diodes could also have failed. There are YouTube videos showing how to DIY test them but that should be done with a meter like suggested so far. If this is what causes the problem the alternator can still produce the proper voltage. I use my dedicated alternator/starter repair shop which is a dying breed sad to say.
I don't think this is a test most ever chain parts store can test for, some may not even know of its possibility
