On Thanksgiving night my 2001 Ford Excursion 4x4 had a blowout on the freeway traveling at 80 mph in the fast lane. The tire blew on the right rear side and caused the vehicle to fishtail violently. The Firestone dealer declared it a blowout and offered to prorate until he discovered the damage to the vehicle. He then referred me to Firestone Tecnical Services for a damage claim. Needless to say I was not very comfortable riding on Firestone after the blowout and proceeded to purchase a set of new tires. Fortunate for me and my family that this blowout did not cause a rollover.

First-off, I'm glad you and your family are safe.
Were they the A/T's or the R4SII? I have the R4sII on my 2000 and would like to know if these present a hazard or just the A/T's. Thanks.

I have the 2000Excursion XLT 4x4 V-10, with Flowmaster performance exhaust, K&N air induction and some other goodies. I do still have the STeeltex ATs on the vehicle. I have had to replace the rear pinion gear and seals. However, I am again getting some vibration and it is the tires this time. I have about 26,000 miles on the vehicle and have towed a 6,000lb trailer about a 1,000 of those miles. I always keep the tires at 45-50psi ft and back. I am going to replace these tires ASAP,,,,seems foolish to have a $38,000 vehicle and keep $700 worth of suspect tires on it. Besides..I want the 95 75R 16s....and have good reason that even wife won't disagree with....
