You have the right carb, it's just a matter of what condition it's in and if it's worth rebuilding. if it's pretty slopped out I'd just buy a new 4160 and be done with it.
If it's putting too much fuel through for any reason it could blacken your plugs.

I thought it was gunk at first as well but it turned out to be chipped on that circular part and almost as if something hit it.
The carb is a bit toast in general, weighing out the options of rebuild vs new.
As long as it's not broken it probably doesn't matter.
It looks like an older one, probably no power valve protection so if you have a blown one it will run very rich.
There does come a point where it's best to just buy a new one. they say nothing lasts forever but a lot of people seem to think a Holley carb should. just because they're easy to rebuild doesn't mean they're as good as new. I have new electric choke 4160's on my 428 CJ, 429 and a couple 460's . yes a 750 is over kill , but they all run perfect.

Thanks for the suggestion, I probably will have a look at some new Holleys.
I've been getting the 0-80459SA . single feed, electric choke 750, I prefer the looks of the dichromate but for the money this carb has no competition.
Years ago I had a Holley given to me that had a melted booster venturi from a fire.
I sent the body to Holley and they replaced the melted venturi.
I don't know if they still do that or not.
I mean, age, wear, use. These are good carbs and run nicely. however shafts wear and wear housings, and in turn can draw air. gasket surfaces warp. threads wear and/or strip. After so many years/miles/fires/rebuilds Carbs tend to need to be changed or totally refurbished. just food for thought. No telling without seeing it.
