HI. 2002 7.3. I picked up a new stock fuel filter. First time I'm changing it. How can I tell if the filter that's in there is the stock kind? More I read I'm seeing there are aftermarket filters that have the filter attached to the cap. I can't find any markings on the cap. .
Thanks
Remove the used filter and see if it has the cap attached to it or not. If the used filter does not have the cap attached, you are good to go. If the used filter does have the cap attached, you will need to purchase a cap, be it plastic or metal and/or purchase the filter with the cap attached.
Thanks Sous. I'm a long way from auto parts. I didn't want to unscrew the top to check because if I had to put it back in it might leak without putting in new gaskets. I should have researched this before I got the new filter!
Chances are it will reseal if you do not have the matching filter installed.
I agree. I've reused o rings a couple times.
If you need a new cap I'd get a cheap billet aluminum one off Amazon. Can get one for around $30. I have one on mine and haven't had a single issue out of it. It uses stock style filters and has a nice hex machined into the top of it for a socket for easy removal.
