I am looking to replace the dashboard in my ‘93 F150 XLT. To be clear, I’m not looking for a dash cap or cover but the actual dash itself, part number 1 in the diagram. The top of it (the part that you see) is in great shape other than some cracking at the bolts right under the windshield. The main reason I want to replace it is that 90% of the “brackets” or whatever they’re called that are built in to it are broken. You know what I’m talking about, the little holes in the plastic with a little metal clip behind that a screw/bolt goes into. The ones that hold in the headlight switch module and the gauge cluster. Most of them were already broken when I got it but I have broken a few myself.
I know they sell caps/covers but cosmetically it’s fine, I don’t need that. I also know that no one makes this so there are none for sale except at the junkyard which are likely just as bad as mine or soon will be.
I’m considering looking into getting one 3D printed if it’s not ungodly expensive. Other than that I don’t know what to do about these broken brackets.
Anybody out there figured out a way to get around this or “rebuild” these broken brackets?
Dash pieces from Southern trucks are likely going to be 'potato chips' aka brittle/prone to cracking from either UV, heat, or both. I've bought several cars/trucks from down South, and unless they are stored out of the sun, the interior plastic pieces get brittle from exposure. That's about the only 'good' thing about living up more North - the rust kills the truck body before the interior. The whole dash will be bulky ( read: expen$$$ive) to ship due to size.
The ‘87-91 dashboards don’t seem to have that problem. At least my ‘87 and ‘89 do not. Is it an actual bracket or the molded plastic dash that is broken?

It is the plastic. I use the word bracket very loosely for lack of a better word. Nothing that is visible when all trim pieces are in place. It’s like the little tabs that stick out with a hole in them that a screw goes in to secure gauge cluster, headlight switch, other trim pieces, etc. I don’t know why they break so easily because it does seem like a thick sturdy material but I realize that it is 30 years old and has had plenty of hot summers to dry out.

theyt make repair brackets for every single thing you listed as broken. OBS solutions is one company on the top of my head who makes them.

That’s awesome I’ll have to check them out! Now to find a decent headlight **** replacement that actually comes off the pull rod. Thanks!

As noted in the comment section of the OBS Solutions video, they also really need to make a repair bracket for the fuel selector switch.... BOTH of my trucks suffered a mounting broken tab on that.. My now-sold '97 F250HD broke later in its life , probably at 120k miles/ and 22 yrs old (and that was a NE Ohio truck that was bought new, but never garaged/stored in shade), whereas the '95 F250 was already broken when I bought it six years ago (always a Florida truck). OK, so it was already 22 yrs old when I bought it, so who knows...I do know that the '95 was baked severely in the Florida sun - the clearcoat paint on the upper surfaces is pretty much gone. I'll need to repaint it everywhere above the upper two-tone tape stripe
I keep my ear to the ground on the products offered on the oBS aftermarket websites despite not buying anything yet, and I thought I had seen something like what you mentioned! @cougrrcj
