OK, I know there's a push button on the switch body to release the **** & shaft so you can get the instrument panel cover off.
But how do you reach it? I can't get to it when the cover is on, and I can't get the cover off until the **** comes off. Catch-22.
Not enough room to get a hand, finger or anything else in there.
Also, there's a plastic brace under the dash on the passenger side that bolts to the sheet metal under the A-pillar. It supports the whole right side of the dash and the A/C ducts underneath, and maybe the evaporator case as well. Anyway, this "brace" or bracket is broken, and the whole dash assembly on the right side is loose. It looks like a royal, horrendous PITA to get out of there, and the broken part seems to be molded as one gigantic assembly, so I'm guessing big $$.
Anybody been thru this before?
Pull the switch out so that the headlights are on. Rotate the switch so that you can see the small notch cut out near where the shaft goes into the ****; you should see a small metal clip in there. Take a small slotted screwdriver, stick it in this notch (towards the front of the vehicle), and slide the **** towards you; it should come right off.
I have the same broken bracket. It seems to be a really poor design. I insalled a plastic "L" bracket to support the dash in place of the broken piece. I think that you could probably also make something similar out of steal. I just had to drill it and cut it to make it fit. It isn't perfect, but the dash no longer sags or bounces when crossing railroad tracks.
